An interview with Hideaki Anno by Asahi Shimbun for his exhibition reveals that the director isn't opposed to more Evangelion in the future, though it might be done by someone other than him.
With Evangelion 3.0+1.0 now three years old, Anno was asked about potential plans for more Evangelion, and he responded that there were no concrete plans at the moment, but he wouldn't be averse to the idea, especially giving free rein to someone else other than him.
Meanwhile, Anno would rather focus on Space Battleship Yamato, where he is in charge of producing the anime's 50th anniversary plans.
Coming off the trilogy of Shin Godzilla, Shin Ultraman, and Shin Kamen Rider, Anno said that he was fine with stepping away from the director role for now, especially with the time crunch that was caused by COVID wearing down his physical and mental health.

Does he even have enough repressed sadness about his dysfunctional relationship with his father set against the backdrop of growing up in Japan's post-nuclear WWII aftermath left in the can to crank out another ~2hr movie or 26-episode story arc? There's only so far that uncomfortably hebephilic situational fan service padding can be stretched.
