It was one of the first mangas I read and havent touched it for probably twenty years. I dont think I processed the ending the first time because I never realized how bleak the canon ending was.
I can't think of any other manga where the villain wins so completely, open to recommendations though

It's worth a re read, it holds up really well. The hardcover re release is fantastic. I got a lot more out of it this time than when I was younger but it's actually way sadder than I remember
