Backing the Taliban was the stupidest decision I've seen in a country's foreign policy in my lifetime. The US let Bangladesh slide for the Pakistan but they thought letting Osama just chill out wasn't going to backfire on them? In the 90s we would have backed Pakistan short of actual boots on the ground if they got into a death war with India. Now it would be entirely the opposite and for what gain?
