Allow me to tell you something no one ever told me, & which could have saved me several thousand dollars. If you have power steering, and the pump fails, you should get it replaced. It's not just that your power steering makes your life easier, there's also an actual structural reason to replace it…

…You see, the power steering system in a car designed to have one helps the rack and pinion steering system to move more smoothly, & the longer you don't have the power steering pump, the more the R&P system is essentially grinding against itself, doing longterm wear & real damage.

…long enough, eventually you'll have to fully replace not only the power steering pump but, as I have learned today, your whole steering rack will. And both of those together'll cost you about $3k, total.
So try to avoid that.
