M.Sfinbar (@sfinbar.bsky.social):

Demise of religion is inevitable when people started getting a good education. Less the fault of religion (interesting!) than the men who maintain it (a lot of reactionary weirdos!)

Chrissy Stroop (@www.bugbeardispatch.com):

More Gen Z women than Gen Z men have left the church.

That's big news!

Here's why I think it's also the wave of the future:

Chrissy Stroop (@www.bugbeardispatch.com):

If education truly heralded the end of religion, America would look like Europe. Also, not all religions are anti-intellectual; Judaism encourages debate, and it's possible to be an atheist and practice Judaism, Buddhism, etc. Supernatural belief isn't the defining feature of religion as such

M.Sfinbar (@sfinbar.bsky.social):

It takes time for religion to lose cultural power because, as you say "Supernatural belief isn't the defining feature of religion as such." Authority/legitimacy based on ancient desert musings just loses out against educated people over time.

Ms. Penny Oaken (@skywitches.net):

I think you are comparing apples and oranges.

There's culturally transmitted, traditional religion as an institution. And there's experienced religion as a personal & cultural phenomenon.

One of these erodes against educated people over time. The other can happen to educated people over time.

Ms. Penny Oaken (@skywitches.net):

People believe for as many different reasons as there are stars in the sky.
