You're aware that promoting hatred based on identity or vulnerability is now a violation of the #1 sitewide rule of reddit, right?

I have you on record as holding the position of "We shouldn't socially accept [transgender / transsexual people], much less enable them..." approximately three years ago. This was a comment of yours in response to a post that was titled "Being a [slur for transgender people] shouldn't be socially acceptable" where the author of the post -- in the highest upmarseyd comment in the post -- opined that there's nothing wrong with being a bigot.

Such rhetoric promotes hatred against transgender and transsexual people.

That same comment you made three years ago, you expressed doubt about whether there was any justification for the continued existence of LGBTQIA+ people.

That would be a threat.

You talk about "echochambers".

The truth is this: For about eight years, Reddit was an echochamber, promoting hatred and harassment based on identity or vulnerability. Bigots enjoyed nearly unlimited exercise of hateful, violent, and harassing rhetoric and behaviour on this site - to the exclusion of any other viewpoint. Front page posts would be brigaded by hordes of racists; Admin announcements would be commented on by user accounts that expressed worship and admiration of racially motivated violent extremists like Dylann Roof.

Even when subreddits would make rules - clearly stated rules - that prohibited hate speech and harassment, bigots would ignore those and post hate speech and harass people anyways.

This is such a common occurrence and cycle that there's even a trope about it, now.

The truth is that -- with the exception of subreddits that had extensive and dedicated moderation teams, almost all of Reddit was a safe haven for bigots, and widely populated with echo chambers for bigots, while the audience of same decried being excluded from the few subreddits that had rules prohibiting hatred.

For a long time, you were perfectly happy with echo chambers that were in your favour - where you had an unending supply of victims and an unlimited amount of allies across the site.

But it turns out that bigots aren't the majority of people. It turns out that most people don't want to put up with bigotry. It turns out that leaving a forum moribund and captured from the inside by violent, threatening, harassing, hateful goons serves no one very much except the goons.

The truth is that you had your free speech. You used it. You used it to great extent, and for nothing much more than to tell the world that you're angry and afraid and resentful and want everyone else to suffer for whatever it is that hurt you, and that you do not respect boundaries - personal or community boundaries.

It was you dividing people into their own spaces and out of public life.

It was you who did not, or could not, or would not make an effort to understand others - preferring to put them in fear for their lives. safety, health, happiness, and rights.

It was you who continually operated under the assumption that you were always right and the people who refused your hatred were always wrong.

It's your choice. You chose to make hatred the totality of your defining characteristics.

When you make the choice to leave that behind, the world awaits.

The post doesn't insinuate. It says "this is what this looks like". Anyone can see it. Appearances of impropriety are sufficient grounds to open law enforcement investigations & launch civil suits.

The leader of the union is supposed to act in a fiduciary role on behalf of the union members. You can't do that and be in Trump's gladhand pocket at the same time.

Also police unions are unions in name only - they don't require a collective organisation to bargain vs management. They're literally management.

This is a theory

Which part? Surely you're not telling me that Jan 6 2021 & DJT being a violent autocrat are "theories" instead of documented facts?

need for protest

That's super! I think the strike should happen. I also think the strike absolutely under no circumstances should happen in a way that could be seen to be at the behest of an incompetent, ultraviolent, union busting oligarch who is infamous for leveraging "favours" and relationships to coerce people to undertake actions that benefit him.

No one here is saying "Oh shit this is an entire union in Trump's pocket, how deep does the MAGA conspiracy go, they're gonna …".

What we are saying is that Trump is the antithesis of everything unions exist to secure, this is more than sufficient evidence of impropriety by the union leadership, and you should be taking steps to ensure that any strike that happens is absolutely unimpeachable as to its motives.

Not just because we here oppose DJT, but because *every other union in existence does, too, except the police "union"_ (which might as well not be a union).

Solidarity means something. Doing favours for the management class' ultraviolent oligarch avatar which throw the election for him is going to be remembered.

The demonization is because Donald Trump is a Domestic Violent Extremist (Jan 6; Demands to shoot protestors in the legs; demands to have police unleash violence on his enemies; promises of state violence if elected), is insanely anti-union, and this is a recent photo.

On top of that, it's an appearance of impropriety — there's multiple political theorists who believe that inflation and the economy is going to be the major inflection point on the election, and this one person — who has the power to vastly affect the economy and inflation in the short term by timing a strike — is not at-arm's-length from Trump.

This scenario is what unions literally exist to counter & prevent — the capture of labour by the management class. It would be bad at any time and with any other POTUS or POTUS candidate with the power of the Taft-Hartley act in their reach, but it is especially bad that it's one who is literally ready to deploy police to shoot union members & union leaders in the legs for being inconvenient to his goals.

This shit is literally how Hitler got elected Chancellor of Germany - a manufactured crisis that he declared only he could protect Germany from.

There's been six months (non-contiguous) in the past 25 years when Democratic officials held control of the House, Senate, and White House together such that they could pass bills.

You can't "work harder" to get past a party that controls enough of the government to stall out all efforts to improve anything.

It's a miracle that enough Republicans defected to approve the ACA.

A long time ago, I wrote automoderator code for a regional R4R subreddit & then SESTA/FOSTA became law & I left moderating that subreddit and won't moderate any subreddit that might even approach having operators held liable for user content.

If someone else wants to make a DFW NSFW subreddit, I can't stop them. I just need any such posts here appropriately labelled

There are, today, an order of magnitude more moderation assistance bots than there were 5 years ago. There's a real, enforced moderator code of conduct. Subreddits that are used to harass others get kicked off the platform promptly, now, instead of subreddit mod teams weathering five days of continued death threats from groups trying to extort control. There's crowd control, there's expert systems that find hate speech and harassment automatically, there's ban evasion detection.

In 2020 I was sometimes banning 300 accounts a day from one subreddit alone.

I rarely need to ban users any longer. Because the mafia mindset of certain groups has been run off the platform.

It's not difficult to keep a community open. There is a pervasive perception amongst some moderators that they can't trust anyone else to run the subreddit. That if they can't do it, the sub must be closed. They are suffering from PTSD or anxiety or etc. and for the good of their communities, they need to recruit more human moderators, and work together as a team.

I know where you picked up the "Reddit doesn't respect moderators" line from and if I were you, I'd drop it and wash my hands. And anywhere else it touched.

Moderators are why the communities that form here, stay usable.

Communities and people that incite violence or that promote hate based on identity or vulnerability will be banned.

Marginalized or vulnerable groups include, but are not limited to, groups based on their actual and perceived race, color, religion, national origin, ethnicity, immigration status, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, pregnancy, or disability. These include victims of a major violent event and their families.

While the rule on hate protects such groups, it does not protect those who promote attacks of hate or who try to hide their hate in bad faith claims of discrimination.

The last time I was called pretentious it resulted in Sitewide Rule 1 & 4000+ hate groups being banned.
