Just saw the new SALEM'S LOT, very solid vampire thriller in an era where there is a lot tacking against playing one straight.

but the MVP by leaps and bounds is the kid playing Mark, who completely sells the book character's utter conviction that he can AND WILL personally kill every single vamp.

it actually got better as it went on--there was a bit of the overly-self-conscious adaptation woes of other re-Kings, and a challenging pacing problem, but the end of the second act sold the terrifying speed of the town's fall, and the third act featured a clever and original set piece.

extra props for making me care about Susan for the first time ever, and an exceptionally devious re-framing of Cody's fate that somehow feels more Stephen Kingly than Stephen King's original text.

I will say that I laughed out loud when I got to the end credits and realized that the Bill Pullman looking guy is Bill Pullman's actual kid.
