David Forbes (@davidforbes.bsky.social):

Ok fine @transsalamander.bsky.social has made a convincing case I'm going to give Shock Treatment a watch.

Kat-o-Lantern πŸŽƒ (@transsalamander.bsky.social):

FRICK yes! I think you'll be pleasantly surprised!

David Forbes (@davidforbes.bsky.social):

I have Incredibly Complicated Feelings about Rocky Horror (but like the songs) so this should be interesting.

Kat-o-Lantern πŸŽƒ (@transsalamander.bsky.social):

My feelings on the movie RHPS are also at least a little complicated. I don't recommend it without caveats, but yeah I too adore the soundtrack.

Shock Treatment has an awesome soundtrack AND the movie itself has so much more to say

Black Lives Matter (@khlazarus.bsky.social):

ST feels like the inverted mirror of RHPS, in so many ways..

Imagine if they had been able to get it debugged through the process of leading with a stage show, before the movie?

Kat-o-Lantern πŸŽƒ (@transsalamander.bsky.social):

It's shocking (lol) to me that Shock Treatment wasn't intended for the stage! Someone got Richard O'Brien to agree to one being made after a ton of pestering and they did that in 2015, but I don't think it ran for very long. I'd LOVE to see it live!

Mia (@service-doll.bsky.social):

It definitely feels like a stage show but I feel that partially comes from the fact that it's all set in a TV studio.

Kat-o-Lantern πŸŽƒ (@transsalamander.bsky.social):

Exactly! I found out later it was due to budgetary constraints and an actors' strike, because the original plan was to film it on location in Denton, Texas. All the costumes are sourced from thrift stores in Denton, in fact!

Jupiter ♃ (@tempestarubida.bsky.social):

Denton TX dentioned!

Kat-o-Lantern πŸŽƒ (@transsalamander.bsky.social):

The Wikipedia article for Shock Treatment says it takes place in "the fictional town of Denton" and I'm like... I mean the real Denton wasn't entirely subsumed by a TV stations I assume, but otherwise it's not fictional at all lmao

Jupiter ♃ (@tempestarubida.bsky.social):

Simple, the fictional town of Denton is a separate place from the real town of Denton where UNT is.

Ms. Penny πŸŒ…πŸ§™β™€οΈ Oaken (@skywitches.net):

The real town of Denton is far stranger

Kat-o-Lantern πŸŽƒ (@transsalamander.bsky.social):

I just watched this week's Last Week Tonight and I think I'm forced to agree.

It's home to the dreaded Nancy of Denton County calling in thousands of false positives for voter fraud every day

Ms. Penny πŸŒ…πŸ§™β™€οΈ Oaken (@skywitches.net):

It also has UNT, which is infamous for Being Weird (good), as well as the Fry Street Fair

The UNT library is haunted; Bruce Hall is too

Kat-o-Lantern πŸŽƒ (@transsalamander.bsky.social):

Stop making me want to visit Texas dammit
