"Wild Signals", the 'conversation' piece from Close Encounters of the Third Kind, doesn't just sound like an exchange — it's literally a protocol negotiation using a musical conlang, SolReSol, formatted as a modem handshake — complete with a clock signal.
Williams turned a modem scream into music.
Ms. Penny Oaken, SkyWitch (@skywitches.net):
The famous sequence, ''Si-Do-La Laaa Miii''?
"Si-Do-La" is (''Progress, Progressive'') in SolReSol & time-doubled "La" (time-doubled to disambiguate it as the standalone word) would be the Present Participle, time-doubled "Mi" indicating Future. Progress-Now-Future - "Go Ahead".
Ms. Penny Oaken, SkyWitch (@skywitches.net):
This might be dismissed as coincidence, except Williams has the mothership respond to that invitation with "FaSol" — which is "Here" in SolReSol. Contextually and ontologically appropriate. It then uses "SolSolSolSol" — which means (in context), "HERE".
They're negotiating time & bandwidth domains.

He wrote this in production in 1976 & 1977,
BEFORE THE FIRST MODEM FOR HOME COMPUTERS HIT THE MARKET
Modem handshakes were not by any means cultural touchstones and common knowledge at the time.
