gear thread:
rockwell r1
merkur super platinum
geo f trumpers
tin cup
old makeup brush
broken shaving mirror
face cloth
charcuterie board
milk jug
gwencatmads (@wheneverends.bsky.social):
when i first transitioned i struggled with shaving, getting close without irritating my skin
started out with a mach 3 and a can of blue foaming goo
learned that women's razors have a slightly different angle
but even using mens with the grain and venus against and it was irritating and expensive
gwencatmads (@wheneverends.bsky.social):
so i did a little research, not too much
and learned just enough to get what i consider a passable shave without hurting my skin
and i didn't have to invest a lot to get going
gwencatmads (@wheneverends.bsky.social):
razor: rockwell r1
getrockwell.com/products/rockwell-r1-double-edge-safety-razor
this is pretty cheap
easy to use with a screw-tight hinged head
mechanism gets a bit stiff with shaving soap residue but bronners castille soap washes that out
gwencatmads (@wheneverends.bsky.social):

worth the upgrade from the cheaper ones for my skin
flip them over to get a second use
then strop them for two more
i strop them fresh too, cause knicks suck
i use an old leather belt but you can improvise something i'm sure
gwencatmads (@wheneverends.bsky.social):
www.trumpers.com/product/rose...
this stuff smells so nice, no idea if it's worth it
but a tube lasts months so i don't feel it's such a splurge
you can lather it straight on your face, just make sure to use plenty of water
more water
still more
if it's too thick the razor can stick
gwencatmads (@wheneverends.bsky.social):
tin cup and old makeup brush
brushes is where you can spend a shit ton of money and for what
put very little soap, like so little, in the cup and mix with a wet brush until smooth
then add water until it's barely thick enough to stick to your face
gwencatmads (@wheneverends.bsky.social):
always soak your face with a hot we cloth first
softens the hairs, relaxes the skin (why i shave in the tub)
can use a handheld mirror in a pinch
but my hands shake so i have to stabilize against the wall of the shower
gwencatmads (@wheneverends.bsky.social):
the hardest part is finding the right angle, not too steep
second hardest is being gentle, no pressure
lastly is the grain of the hair
i like to go with the grain, then across it
against the grain for a closer shave, but can be more irritating
gwencatmads (@wheneverends.bsky.social):
oh and the milk jug is just nice to keep full of hotter, cleaner water
so i rinse the blade in the tub, and then in the hot water, for a nice clean hot blade against my skin

love a good container reuse
gwencatmads (@wheneverends.bsky.social):
it's my standard bath jug
if you love baths
you'll love a bath jug
🦾 Fit⁷ 💎 "Valhalla Ice" 💅 'chronic' (iTH) (@fit7.bsky.social):
I have been known to enjoy a bath, yase
I don't know that these kinds of jugs are found where I am, however
Ms. Penny Oaken, SkyWitch (@skywitches.net):
Go to the grocery store to the tupperware aisle; they sell them for water / beverages, 1 liter size.
