Nic Wise (@fastchicken.co.nz):

And yet stuff.co.nz can't even be bothered fixing unfurled links

Stuff

sophie malice (@sophieactual.mitsuko.nz):

emailed them months ago to suggest it should be fixed

crickets

Rob (@robdickinson.bsky.social):

Tell them we can't see their heartwarming stories all about how young people are buying houses with only their ingenuity and a massive gift from papa

Nic Wise (@fastchicken.co.nz):

TBH I've kinda stopped reading them anyway…. But I doubt I'm normal on that aspect

sophie malice (@sophieactual.mitsuko.nz):

samesies, it just irritates me when someone posts a link and i can't see the headline so that i can then not click on it

Rob (@robdickinson.bsky.social):

I try screenshoting the story and posting that but don't always remember

sophie malice (@sophieactual.mitsuko.nz):

yup, but then i have to delete the EXIF data and write alt text for the image too, it's a pain in the butt

Rob (@robdickinson.bsky.social):

OK so the answer is no, bsky wipes the exif info

Rob (@robdickinson.bsky.social):

Wait I need to 100% verify thats true..

Rob (@robdickinson.bsky.social):

Ms. Penny Oaken, SkyWitch (@skywitches.net):

Ms. Penny Oaken, SkyWitch (@skywitches.net):

Sorry that's really unkind of me. I just have a really specific anxiety about EXIF data stripping on uploaded content to social media

sophie malice (@sophieactual.mitsuko.nz):

as in it should be removed or should be left intact?

Ms. Penny Oaken, SkyWitch (@skywitches.net):

UCHISPs should be stripping EXIF in order to defeat a vector of steganographic conveyance, to protect user privacy, and mitigate against potential buffer overflow attacks.

Ms. Penny Oaken, SkyWitch (@skywitches.net):

(Both on the UCHISP's servers & on the other enduser's devices)
