You can only engage respectfully when your views do not deliberately destroy the rights, autonomy, safety and lives of other people. Civility alone is not even close to enough to platform views that begin close to 'I don't believe you are a full person, mostly because of my religious views.'

So in short: No. Nobody needs to respect malignant views designed to make people's lives worse than they already are. Why would I respect what you don't respect about what I believe is the basis of a safer, fairer society. If we can't share a model of reality, arguing online doesn't change it.

Speaking as a long time Reddit moderator — Reddit hosts a huge swathe of opinions. It merely bans hate speech, violent threats, stolen nudes, trading in drugs & guns, & CSAM. None of these are "moderate" by any reasonable definition. Don't swallow the lies of the bigotry mafia
