And it shouldn't be a "Does this maintainer's instincts match mine?" situation. It's a good heuristic / shortcut, but the appropriate gauge should be "Is the maintainer / operator interested in transparency & accountability (or are these lists going to be abusable)?"

A thread that's been brewing for a while: how DO I vet a moderation list that I've come across to see whether or not it's a good list to subscribe to? The key to deciding: you aren't deciding if the list-maker is using it abusively or maliciously; you're deciding if their instincts match yours.

Yeah, but the shortcut works! And there are plenty of people whose work is transparent but I think their approach is absolutely batshit wrong.
