They don't stay near water? Nah they spend half their lives in water. They are considered semi-aquatic and that is one of the problems with having one as a pet. PeepeeButtKiss looked into it

right, my point is if a coyote or wolf pack or something attacked couldn't they flee to the safety of like a lake or whatever body of water they're near?

ooohhh my bad. You said "don't they stay near water?" I read it as "they don't stay near water," as in that explains the lack of predation from sea creatures.
