They have scent glands in their butts that they spray when they are scared. Ours were descented before we got them, which I feel badly about. They are also just musky creatures, although the musk doesn't get too bad and really only gets on their bedding, which we wash weekly.

They have the energy of a slinky puppy for the first couple years, but then they can get pretty snuggly.

Yep, except when they are sleeping, which they like to do in their cage. We have hammocks and tubes for them to sleep in. Although my oldest ferret, Homer, likes to sleep in my fiancé's lap. I hate thinking of them in a cage all day.
