I know the "why do you want to work here" question is pretty standard but it seems so pointless for minimum wage retail jobs. Everyone knows the answer is money, but we have to pretend like we have a desire to work at fricking Walmart for some reason.
There has gotta be another way to weed those types out. I try to be a reasonably honest on a job interview as I can be, but that is the one question where I just have to make up bullshit.
We literally don't give the slightest frick if you lie for that.
If you're going to be at a job where you interact with people and you value being honest over having a positive social interaction to the point you're willing to do it at your detriment, then you're probably going to be a massive pain in the butt to work with.
The simple fact is that one single question weeds out a ton of weirdos, potential lawsuits, idiots who don't think before they talk and autists that can't read a room.

I honestly have the best job. I manage a small business. i have 0 turnover. I hire like 4 seasonal employess a year and if they tell me they want the job for the money, they are hired. "you will lift things for money???? and you will show up??? hired!"
That's what we were all there for at the end of the day.
It's an issue if you're coming off as particularly weird and that's your answer though. If it's some weird kid trying to build social skills and meet people I might give them a shot, but I ain't trying to fund the local school shooter.

this is an acceptable wagie answer. it's honest and shows they need the job. The only jobs that the recruiter wants you to lie for is fancy salary jobs like a tech bro would get. then they want to hear why you are attracted to their companies culture that isn't the insane benefits and compensation
Everyone knows the answer is money, but we have to pretend like we have a desire to work at fricking Walmart for some reason.
If you're not an autist, you realize that the point of the question is to give some reason for the person hiring you to believe you will not just randomly bail in a couple weeks because you got an offer on a wagie job that pays 50 cents more. Being unable to hide a mercenary attitude is a red flag to employers, sweety.

supposedly i didn't get a tech job due to being not cut throat enough. it probably would have been miserable, but this was a bunch of dorks who probably did some blow and watched the big short and decided to go with the chinaman who interviewed after me to look more authentic

It was a tricky question when I worked as a security guard because I actually did have a passionate answer but "I want to scare off hobos and get them arrested" wasn't very professional.

fake story etc but similar things really exist. I don't think they're malicious rather just that recruiters are braindead HR women who treat everyone like their children.
I think working shitty jobs is a rite of passage, but I can't imagine a life where it's your only option, or that you're forced to do this song and dance in your late 20s.
Lmao nah this is actually so true though, I got fired from Best Buy when I was in college because I stopped giving a frick and wouldn't upsell people Monster cables and warranties. We literally did it for FREE no commission it was just required, frick that place.

It's one of those questions that doesn't make any sense to ask unless you've been the one asking it before.
I've had more than a few scrotes brazenly admit that they were trying to get a job with us so they could try to frick one of our foid employees.

It really is, especially since the person asking is just looking for red flags, so you can humor them with something to lead to another conversation
