Rock Hudson was a long time friend of the Reagans who were well aware that he was gay as all get out. He went to France to get treatment from a doctor there, but he was so much in the end phase of his illness that he collapsed at his hotel. The doctor he wanted to see worked for a French military hospital. Someone called Nancy Reagan to see if she could get him special access to that doctor. But she couldn't ... because if she had, it would have brought out accusations that she pulled in favors for "wealthy friends" that she wouldn't pull for everyone else who was suffering from AIDS. They told him to try to go through the embassy, which he did and eventually he did get treatment from that doctor but everyone has seen the pics of him at the end...he was simply too sick to save.
