So you can discuss your favorite Fantasy and Horror books. As well as trash talk about the authors and books of those genres you hate the most.
Truth be told, outside a few movies and shows I’m pretty much clueless about fantasy lit and still a novice on horror. So I’ll just and enjoy the comments.
Have fun!

I’ve been trying to find good fantasy settings besides medieval. I tried Clan of the Cave Bear for prehistoric times but it was so bad I couldn’t continue. I might try Beyond the Sea of Ice next, which apparently predates the former book. These books aren’t really high fantasy but I feel like there’s going to be some fantastical elements in any prehistoric fiction.
I like the idea of a largely unknown world, where magic is spiritual and people are afraid of the darkness beyond their local forest or coastline or whatever. One high fantasy trope I’m tired of is where the magic is quantified and scientifically understood. Like the writers wants to be doing X-Men comics or something.

Interesting, it does seems like the genre is saturated with medieval like stories (at least the most famous one’s)
That sounds very MCU like, HP is quite like that now that I think about it. Magic is used as a mundane tool, and they learn spells the same way someone learns a new recipe to cook, it’s not a mysterious thing.
