Haven't been as into comics as I used to. Year or two ago I read the Batman Dark Knights: Metal main line. Before that I hadn't read anything since DC relaunched whatever was after New 52.

The one offs for each of the Batman villains were really sweet, but then you get to the main plot, and like most big events it gets so convoluted with all the characters. Still pretty good. Batman Who Laughs is a great concept.

It also, of course, makes references to sub plots that I wouldn't even know what issues to get if I wanted to understand it. I hate that shit. Just sell the complete story in the trades. I don't want to do research to read capshit.

Just finished the miracleman omnibus, pretty good if just edgy for edge sake sometimes

The ex-mutants/shattered earth universe by Malibu/Eternity comics and the Genesis universe also by Malibu. This is all for a top secret drama write up I'm doing on dead universes. This will lead into a post about the ultraverse.

Reread Transmetropolitan again. Arguably the best comic I’ve ever read, but most capeshit makes that a low bar. Still incredible.

Next up is the Hernandez bros' Love and Rockets from start to finish.

I've read Gilbert Hernandez Palomar stuff multiple times but only a handful of Jaime Hernandez stories

I've also been reading a lot of European stuff lately.

I highly recommend Fabien Vehlmann's Green Manor, anything by Vehlmann actually.

Also anything by Lewis Trondheim.

I'm giving SummerTime Rendering a shot, and I wish manga artists would knock of some of the gratuitous panels, and let the sci-fi plot just play itself out. It's annoying.

I got into reading stuff online after someone showed me a site for scanning comic books. I've been slowly reading through One Piece for months now.

The IDW Transformers comics were pretty good. I wouldn’t expect the average person to want to read them, but they told a pretty interesting war story and took advantage of the Transformers to explore sci-fi concepts that wouldn’t work as well with human characters. (As an example, since Transformers are robots that can just repair themselves into immortality, some characters wonder if the Autobot-Decepticon war is endless because the same leaders have been alive since it started. Meanwhile human politicians are forced to give up power by death if nothing else, and the Transformers actually wonder if human society is more evolutionary because individual generations die off and aren’t allowed to control things forever.)

They also genuinely avoid problems that make mainstream comics unreadable. There’s one continuity instead of several, complete with foreshadowing and callbacks. Writers were forced by the editors to respect what previous writers did. Characters that died actually stayed dead. Etc.

Why you want rail for Kalashnikov? Is not good enough as procured from Izhevsk Mechanical Works? You think needs improvement? Then maybe you find job with army of Russia! You have drinks with Mikhail Kalashnikov, trade story of many weapons designed and details of school for engineering!

Or maybe you not do this. Probably is because you never design weapon in whole life. You look at fine Russian rifle, think it need crazy shit stick on all sides of weapon. Rifle is fine. You frick it, it only get heavy and you still no hit largest side of barn. Go to firing range, practice with many magazine of cartridge. Then you not need dumb shit put on side of rifle.
