White people writing fantasy is so interesting to me because you could imagine ANYTHING and your worlds still have rape, incest, hierarchies, pillaging, pilfering, apparatuses of social control, land theft, taxes and abuse.

Has there ever been a black author remotely tolerable who wrote anything besides “muh slavery?!”

I still remember reading that one novel about the African tribesman in high school that was supposed to be a landmark in literature, but the protagonist was just a sigma male who slapped bitches, killed people, busted fat nuts and hung himself when he had to pay taxes and get a job

That is legitimately a great book though. And I have to give props to every high school teacher assigning a book where the protagonist respects women that much

things fall apart is genuinely a really great book. I like how some of the symbolism is inverted compared to what you'd expect (eg a swarm of locusts is considered a blessing rather than a plague)

Honestly not entirely the black community's fault. Publishers will pigeon-hole black authors, and pressure them to produce and submit race related stories they believe will sell better or add prestige to the company. If you're a black writer, you have a much better chance getting a slavery sob story accepted than a story about normal people of whatever race living their lives.
Like try submitting a story about medieval England as a black writer. The response will probably be, “Great story, but could we move it to 1840s Alabama? We want it to be authentic.”
Can't really blame people for producing what pays the bills.

Have you read Percival Everett's Erasure? Or watched the recent film adaptation, American Fiction? It's all about this. The main character is a Black novelist from a well-off family who can't get anything published because the white women that run publishing companies just want Black torture porn. So he writes the most absurd, over-the-top, stereotypical Black book imaginable, and it immediately becomes a best seller.
I've mentioned this before, but it infuriates me that it's impossible for Black authors, filmmakers, painters, etc. to find any success, or even be "allowed" into the industry, if they aren't making art that's about race and racism. We are more than the color of our skin, and the most "progressive" organizations in the country are utterly incapable of recognizing that.

Wasn't that also the plot of Bamboozled, but with TV instead of books?

There's some similarities, but it's not quite the same. In Bamboozled, the main character hates that his racist white boss only wants stereotypical Black shows and rejects anything intelligent as a "Cosby clone", so he comes up with Mantan: The New Millennium Minstrel Show in an effort to get fired. The show is wildly successful, and he fully embraces it, pretending he was in favor of this all along, because all he actually cared about was his own success. It's Jada Pinkett Smith's character that starts to push back against how racist it is. Which is ironic, since in real life, all Jada Pinkett Smith cares about is her own success.
In Erasure/American Fiction, the author hates his novel. He hates that it's popular. He changes the title from My Pafology to Frick in an effort to keep the publisher from buying the book in the first place. Every step of the way, he tries to tank this thing's success, and it just can't be stopped. That aspect of it is more like The Producers, if anything.
And then there's the stuff outside the novel/show. Bamboozled is... well, it's a Spike Lee joint. Which is fine, but it also means it plays into a lot of the things it's ostensibly decrying. Whereas in Erasure/American Fiction, if you removed the plot element of the novel, the story would be about a man coming to terms with his father's suicide several years prior, his sister's recent death, his mother developing Alzheimer's disease... all typical elements of family dramas. In other words, if the characters weren't Black, nothing about the main character's story would be Black. The whole thing is deeply metafictional. Especially in the novel, where the novel within a novel is actually there for us to read.
In any case, Jada Pinkett Smith aside, I would recommend Bamboozled to anyone that hasn't watched it. While Lee didn't do a perfect job of handling the issues he's trying to satirize, the actual filmmaking is excellent. Very clever use of camerawork to lower the budget while still creating the feeling he was going for. And Michael Rapaport's role in that film cracks me up. 23 years, and he still hasn't realized he was playing himself.

Uhm not sure if you're aware but 90% of blacks can't even read above a 3rd grade level. But you want them to write a novel equal to English literature classics. How about have any black people ever invented a single math equation? Or you believe the peanut butter black guy they taught you in gov school?

rage of the dragons is a decent book, European style fantasy (in terms of story beats) but with black cast which seams to be inspired from african tribes but honestly feels a bit like standard euro fantasy (in a good way) author is british. No slavery but does have class based division like you see in most fantasy books mostly just balls to the walls action.
