For me (a patrician), it was Jack and the Beanstalk
I would read it like once a week
The part where the giant said:
Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum
I smell the blood of an English man
Be he alive, or be he dead
I'll grind his bones to make my bread
Ignited the in me

I love trickster tales. My grandmother would tell my siblings and I stories about Anansi, and I always liked the method he used to capture Mmoatia, a sort of forest spirit/fairy, as part of his quest to buy all the stories of the world from Onyame, the sky god. Anansi made a doll, covered it in sap, and baited Mmoatia into trying to beat the shit out of it. When she got stuck, he picked up the doll and carried both it and Mmoatia to Onyame.
Tricksters are the original trolls. We should all strive to be more like them.

Loved Anansi. I definitely enjoy a bit of trolling these days, but I might have just liked Anansi stories because it was an early example of recurring characters in a book. These days I only read massively long series.
