A common theme in leftism
After/during ww2 any 1700s-1800s artist that Hitler liked immediately got a stigma and reviewers would shit on the artists even though they died in like 1890. Some took decades before their were “rehabilitated” by art critics.

You read my mind as I was just checking some Friedrich paintings on google today (he's mentioned in the book I'm reading about nazi art loot “The R*pe of Europa”). Ironically by associating Friedrich with Nazism they're using the same playbook the nazis used back in the days where everyone was “guilty by association” and had their works considered as “degenerate art” if they didn't fit Hitler's narrow views on the subject.
