I read blood meridian recently and I could never shake the feeling that there was no overarching theme or symbolism to it. It was a series of disconnected terrible events, near nonsensical rants from the judge, and a bizarre broken coming off age story for the boy.

It was interesting, but crossed the line into debauchery for shock value.

My take from that book was that violence and shock value was the main theme all along

It's worth reading for Cormack's mastery of english, some of the best writing I've read imo, but it's an incredibly weak story

I'm reading it right now, just started. I loved No Country for Old Men, but having a harder time getting into this with his prose. I think No Country was easier because I'd seen the movie, and it's pretty much scene for scene the same so it's a bit easier to go along with it.

Sticking with it, but it's just really odd. Find myself re-reading sentences alot

It's a really difficult read, the cadence is strange in some parts. No country was a proper story and way more accessible.

I powered through a lot of it, I didn't enjoy it but I didnt hate it either
