Im writing a horror novel but have never read one and wanna get into reading horror to help inspire me and develop a stronger writing technique, any recs? I am looking for any form of horror really I just don't vibe with Stephen Kings writing style idk why! I could never get into his books, but please suggest any of your favorite horror novels and what about the writing and how they conveyed their stories stood out to you.

My autism detector is off the charts as OP fights anyone telling her to read a horror book before trying to write one. She later storms off and labels everyone "pretentious" before forgetting the whole thing and moving on to other matters.

Idk I think :marseynoooticer: it could be interesting :marseylaying: to read if the person :marseypussyhat: was a decent writer. Someone completely unfamiliar with the genre writing :marseyclippy: a horror :marseypyramidhead: story :marseyslime: would :marseymid: make it interesting, maybe not particularly good, but interesting. This person :marseygeisha: is neurodivergent, but all the redditors :marseyhammersrdine: all bitching in unison are more annoying :marseychingchongattentionseek:

That would be the case if this was like Murakami writing a Sci-Fi book or Dan Simmons writing a Romance novel. Horror is a genre that specifically takes a lot of technical skill, especially if their only experience with horror is movies and games, which it certainly is. Go read modern creepy pastas and online horror stories and you will see how many of them, not all, are good stories but not at all scary.
