Plot: Valkyrie "Kyr" is a human living on Gaea, which is ruled by Commander Aulus Jole. Adults on Gaea are assigned to either combat, workforce, or breeding roles. Despite her amazing scores in combat, Kyr is assigned to Nursery, where she is expected to produce future warriors. Her twin brother Magnus is assigned to combat, but he refuses his assignment and leaves the station. She and Mags's friend Avi hack into Command's files. They find that Magnus has actually been assigned a secret suicide mission.

Best Short Story: Better living through algorithms

Plot: In this near future a journ*lists hears about a new app that apparently is great at helping people to be more productive and happier. At first she thinks it sounds like a cult thing with how every user talks about it a bit too passionately. She tries it though and the key element is that the app is built around a community where other users are instructed to make real phone calls to other users. Like telling them it is time to wake up and remind them of their personal goals. This turns out to be quite effective. As we all know, the motivation to actually do something is low if it is just an app telling you, but if you have a friend waiting for you at the gym - then you have to go.

Best Series: Imperial Radch

Plot : Anne Leckie's excellent Imperial Radch trilogy: Ancillary Justice, Ancillary Mercy and Ancillary Sword. It's a great SciFi series, but also quite political, addressing questions around imperialism, workers' rights and especially gender.
