Yeah the reason there’s no heck is cuz people are products of their circumstances. You can be born to shit people and end up being a robber or smth. If you’d had a better family you would have been good. The whole idea behind Mormonism it to teach people the best way to have happy lives while they’re on earth, not just teach them how to avoid heck. If someone also chooses to turn down god after meeting him in the after life they can voluntarily go to outer darkness (I don’t know why they would tho lol)
That sounds rather contrary to the typical "rightwing moralism" in which people who do bad are bad and thus deserve bad yet aren't most mormons republicans?
Again does really add up with the government thing but repubs also kinda hate the government so I guess that still leaves me confused.
Christianity was born as the religion of the poor so I guess this is just a kind of even more extreme variant of the forgiveness thing.
Yeah the majority are Repubs but it’s usually for the religious freedom and abortion stuff. The bishop (basically equivalent to an elected preacher) of our ward is actually a Dem and gets along well enough with everyone. I know a ton of right wing Mormons that support food stamps and illegal immigrants and stuff that would typically be considered left wing. My own grandparents helped sponsor an illegal immigrant guy to help him get residency. It’s a weird culture that’s hard to categorize. I’m glad you find it interesting tho
I suppose it's the pitfall of your 2 party system, not that a system with more parties like Norway's aren't forced to make compromises but at least there is some more fluidity in coalitions and voting. (For example the two largest parties Høyre("Right" conservative/capitalist) and Arbeiderpartiet (Labour) will sometimes vote the same on a topic despite further left and right leaning parties opposing it)
It's usually interesting to learn things and I hear a lot of mentions and tidbits of mormons in many context including sci-fi writings but hardly much about them as a whole.
Yeah I think the Mormons have always kinda done their own thing politically. We were banned from voting for like 100 years so they had an insulated ecosystem to develop politics. I always smile when I see Mormons in sci-fi. The guy in Fallout and the ship in The Expanse are funny. We have a long in-house tradition of sci-fi and fantasy writers too (Ender’s Game, Battlestar Galactica, Dragonlance, Mistborn, Twilight, etc) Brandon Sanderson said we’re a scifi religion (Canonically God is a super advanced alien from a planet that orbits a star called Kolob. )
Anyway I’m glad to answer questions about my weird culture I love learning random shit too. I once got really into reading about Zoroastrianism
Lots of Mormons are ashamed of this association. One old lady said it was sad how our women were going off to write “bodice rippers” instead of having families.
>Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Great game!
>Do you think mormons are on average more neurodivergent than non mormons?
100% our ancestors were r-slurs who were persuaded to give up all their property and go live on some desert salt flats.

If everybody gets to be an angel whats the fricking point???
Never knew how funny Mormon lore is. Sounds a lot more pleasant than those southern crazies, suppose that makes some amount sense for gov agents.

Forgot about FNV but yeah The Expanse came to mind (actually a good sci-fi show).
If you want vampires play Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines
Could be interpreted to mean something
