Forget the Exorcist - you should know the theme of that lame movie is part of the masterpiece that is Tubular Bells.

If you've got 60 minutes to blow listening to two tracks on an album (each side was a single 30 minute track) then I highly recommend listening to Mike Oldfield's breakout album “Tubular Bells”.

Released in 1973 as the first release on the new Virgin Records label, Oldfield, who was only 19 at the time of recording, plays all of the over 30 instruments in the album from mandolins to flutes to glockenspiels etc culminating up to the glorious crescendo of the Tubular Bells.

The whole album really is a masterpiece. I think Oldfield is wearing the striped tank top in the video.

Unfortunately he never beat out this breakout album, I think he made 2-3 more “Tubular Bells” titled albums but they never reached the same level of awesomeness as the first one.

My uncle had an original pressing of this record, used to listen to it religiously every summer.

Side 2, when it gets heavy and he's grunt singing and howling was always my favourite part.
