there were a lot of hobos sleeping outside the country music hall of fame but really the worst thing about nashville was the people were just so... off. like they all resented that they were born in nashville instead of NYC or something so they just seemed so fake and insecure and self hating. i thought the people there were going to be cool because southerners in general are cool imo but the only thing worse than a NYCcel is someone insecure about not being one
now that i think about it, nashville is really the only big blue southern city i've been to where i've interacted much with the local populace so i'm not sure if that might happen in other cities that are diametrically opposed to state politics/culture - people wishing they could just be citycels without the southern republican or 'country' or w/e association. whats your take on that as a dixie boy?

I guess the only times I've been there I didn't really interact with anyone that much, was just getting drunk with friends and listening to music lol. I know they've been getting a ton of people moving there recently and a lot of people there seem to not like how crowded its getting, but never spoke enough with anyone to pick up anything like you said. You might get people more willing to be like that too if you told them you're from Canada. Like just mentioning "refined" northern places will set some folks off on how much better they are.
That sounds pretty accurate, some people here can be like that too where they want hustle and bustle and "walkable city" type stuff, talk about how they hate the suburbs/more rural areas, go on about how racist and rednecky everyone is, shit like that. Probably is what you say but they're too poor/dumb to make it in NYC or something lmao so they're just pissy

it's so funny how argumentative people like that get with me when i tell them that shit actually sucks up here lmao, it's like a significant portion of their personality is hating america/the south so it breaks them to hear that the promised land has way fewer opportunities

lmao that sounds like some fun convos, i hope you've managed to destroy their spirit even more. You're spot on with it being part of their personalities, I guess it's not for everyone down here but people really do just talk about how much they hate the south nonstop while doing nothing to move away. I think they like the feeling of being smarter and more cultured than everyone around them. They're not, lol. They usually seem really dumb outside of their more "refined" interests
