Do you know anything about French Canadian profanities? Hilarious stuff.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quebec_French_profanity

Sacres are words and expressions related to Catholicism and its liturgy that are used as strong profanities in Quebec French (the main variety of Canadian French).

You should look into history of "swearing" and how it evolved from meaning exclusively "to make a vow" to also mean "curse or blaspheme". Christianity in medieval Europe had monopoly on truth, so important people made pledges in relation to God, but that became more and more common. And as we all know, commoners ruin everything. People started taking oaths for ridiculous reasons and invoking extremely important matters (like the body of Christ). And then came the shortening and changing of phrases to not appear blasphemous ('sblood instead of Christ's blood, etc, I think the only remnant of this is the usage of gosh instead of God).

Very cool topic.
