what I do with it that's pretty impressive is being able to extemporaneously solo over whatever random music I hear around me, that's always fun.

most people don't, but most people aren't musicians. I guess if I had more other musicians to hang out with I'd have a better frame of reference for these things but it's been ages since I've jammed with anyone :(
