Sometimes when you're down bad all you need is a thirty year old Italian-American man to tell you that you're a loser who needs to man up

i thought he was iranian?

edit- oh man, i honestly never knew. i straight up never looked his wiki up for his birth info (only his band history and shit). i thought he straight up had iranian blood in him. he looked like it.

edit2- i mean not just the sheik yer booty thing, but like even in interviews, he looked like he was iranian to me.

There's some old interview of his where he says something along the lines of "At the end of the day I'm just a 40 year old Italian-American man with four kids" which has always stuck with me for some reason, so I'm going with that. According to Wikipedia his mother was Italian-American and his father was born in Italy but had a lot of Greek and Arab in him. Also according to Wikipedia he used to play with mercury as a kid and that's why he got prostate cancer, so rip.

yeah he was born in Baltimore, apparently according to wiki. man, that's crazy. he was born within driving distance of me. i wonder what his house looks like?

lol have to ask did he boof it up his butthole? if that's NOT in the wiki, how can we get it in there without it being edited out?

and yeah, prostate cancer killed him, that i remember. sad thing because he seemed like he was edging out of making "strange music" and into classical or producing shit, which means we COULD have had amazing musicians guided by a dude that was a fricking BOSS man.

can you imagine a 90s in which steve albini did production and frank fricking zappa did arrangement for some amazing bands?

Did Zappa ever arrange or produce for anyone other than himself? I don't think he'd be the type of guy to work for other people, he seemed like a real dictator (not that that's necessarily a bad thing), making his band rehearse for six hours a day five days a week before touring, firing anyone who's drug use affected their performance in any way, confusing session musicians by conducting them with a baton, etc.

honestly i don't really know, but here's what i CAN say-- ANY dude that can do what zappa or james brown did (they were basically the same guy, from stories i've heard about their style) could, if given the age and wisdom, or just sheer tiredness of not wanting to lead a band anymore, sit back and produce / arrange. they have the bonafides, you know?

so no, i don't recall anything i read where he suggested he wanted to do that, but i DO recall he said a few times about the possibility of classical stuff HE might do.

i'm just trying to imagine a wonderful world in which we got jointly spiky people like albini and zappa on the BACK end of production. that would be neat.
