Written by Beethoven in his late period, this titanic sonata sits among the greatest of them all. It was said Beethoven believed no pianist would be capable of playing this piece for 100 years. Technically and musically challenging, Beethoven composed the piece while deaf, speaking to his immense genius.
Beethoven was incorrect in predicting that it would not be played for 100 years as Liszt played the composition in one of his most incredible concerts 20 years later; however, the piece remains unfathomably difficult with very few pianists achieving the written tempo.
