I have always hated these gigantic jam sessions where there's like 18 guitar players and 4 bass players. There's no way that can be mixed well live so maybe 3 or 4 guys are actually in the PA which means there's at least a dozen professional musicians pantomiming on dead instruments. And it looks so stupid. They're all crowded together bumping into each other trying to get to the mic for their super important verse. And the stupid audience that goes to these things and eat it up like they're watching history being made. Oh wow Chris Kristofferson AND Bonnie Rait with Lyle Lovett and some literal whos, I can't believe we're witnessing this incredibly momentous event. Jeez look at them go.

I don't give a goddarn that they're all white. BIPOCs have had plenty of time to make good music by now

Have you never heard of an orchestra? Or played in a choir? Just because they are not sitting down doesn't mean they aren't in tune and groove

edit: just as soon as I finished typing this statement I realized your sarcasm

An orchestra isn't 18 guys with trumpets. Each instrument in an orchestra has a frequency it occupies and a unique timbre. Multiples of each instrument add volume. 18 guys with guitars occupying the same space in the EQ on one stage is a mess and completely pointless.

There is no specific definition of orchestra that does not include this.

Maybe not but it's still a transparent circle jerk. Not saying I don't like the individual performers though. It's just silly looking to my eyes knowing what I do about live mixing.

It's a great example of many different instruments with unique timbres each living in their own space in the EQ. Big bands are a thing that work incredibly well when instruments aren't fighting for real estate in the mix. And Derek Trucks is a killer.
