I will be absolutely livid if they draft people for another foreign war.
I don't think they will, though. The US military has plenty of service members, plus reservists. Besides, I'd argue drafted personnel are much less useful than the volunteer ones bc you get a ton of people who really don't want to be there and won't follow orders (they'll do the bare minimum to avoid a court marshal but all you'll ever get is the bare minimum). Plenty of Vietnam vets who were drafted who talk about how they made sure to never kill anyone bc they were ideologically opposed to the war, they'd just shoot into the air to use up their bullets and chalk it up to missing.
edit: oh whoops !slots100

You draft to man the peace bases and send the professionals to the combat zone

I don't think that's how it's worked in any previous draft.

That's exactly what happened in World War 1. American draftees mostly served in defensive position to allow allied European armies (with much more experience fighting for years) to go on more offensives.

Ah, interesting, I didn't know that.
But I'm pretty certain in WW2, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, draftees were sent to the front. Probably more indicative of what a potential future draft would look like than WW1.

Disagree. If it's about small time conflict in Israel, draftees are a safety backup for expanded conflict, but won't see combat otherwise.

They would never initiate a draft like that. Drafts are almost universally unpopular and will virtually guarantee a strong resurgence of anti-war protests.
