genocide shmenocide i dont think they were defending genocide

i think they're defending the rights of students to be the upmost r-slurred they could be while they are confined in school walls so that they can look back and cringe for the rest of their adult lives

That's what I meant , defending their right to say it. There's basically no one who actually wants to genocide Jews beyond a couple arabs and some rightoids. A better argument is that they may want to genocide Israelis who they see as settlers. These administrators just don't want to be seen agreeing with rethuglicans, if the rethuglicans had been asking them why they were punishing students calling for genocide they would say it goes against their code of conduct.

When you hear "genocidal" you think they're saying "kill all jews" but I bet in this case it was people saying "from the river to the sea". Which seems absurd to get someone into trouble for saying that even if there is a way to interpret the saying as "genocidal".

What else does from the river to the sea imply? That the Jews who currently live there go on vacation?

put yourself in their shoes

study literally all day and all night darn near no fun and hormones raging

from their pov they are trying to "both sides" it and :soycry: why can't people understand that the people on the other side are dying too the fricken britains did this

These kids wield no real power. They might when they are older. Their parents might. But if the older gen is unironically with the "from the river to the sea" chants then there's an actual problem. If these college kids on the other hand are confused and can't see what the heck is going on from their dorm room, then it'd be wise to separate them from the ones who are screaming pro-hamas shit because of actual hatred for Jews. That kinda thing doesn't get solved by simply hitting mute and definitely doesn't get solved by kicking kids out of the school. This sort of thing should be contained and hopefully resolved for each student there. What you don't want is a bunch of people who were punished severely because they thought they were trying to be neutral, because then you have actual reason for real hatred. I think, it's probably something along those lines. I really doubt the biggest edu institutions are ok with genocide.

They actually exert a lot of power. They mold the institutions to their will in many respects. They can get professors fired for starters.

Look at this mook who thinks ivy league undergrads are actually studying their butt off, and not getting automatic As by virtue of showing up. You don't fail out once you reach the big leagues, fella. :marseycool:

And anyway I'd be with you more if you know these extract same institutions and students haven't had a history of disrupting and trying to ban the most milquetoast conservative events and speakers. I'm over the ‘rules for thee and not for me,' as I think are most of the other eyerollers. That's the root of a lot of the exasperation.

I haven't paid much if any attention to how "upper class" edu conducts their affairs

however I will say that having an actual desire for a genocide is so fricked in the head that making rash decisions as the authority for where these people reside is heavy as frick. Either pull those people out of that darkness or just flip a coin with "gtfo lmao"

Basically if the students are unironically advocating for genocide, even from a strategic viewpoint it would be an awful idea to banish those people from the campus.

That's why I can't really look down on the three that congresswoman was talking down to. That shit's no joke lol but I just doubt people going to Harvard have had enough trauma + loss + free time on their hands to develop such a level of hatred, and for a specific group of people, it just sounds too unlikely. Crazy if true

Apparently in Arabic the phrase goes "From the river to the sea Palestine will be Arab" implying all ethnic Jews will be gone one way or another

In a perfect world yeah, but the same white collar commissars who run academia also run the professional world now and they've encouraged their student body to be as uppity and r-slurred as they can possibly be. Watching this shit get blown right back in their faces and defending rhetoric that's way more extreme than stuff they ban rightoids for has been glorious. :marseypopcorn:

That's not true, though. Harvard in particular has a very restrictive environment with respect to speech. They've made a special exception for calling for genocide against Jews.

Yeah the schools have an objective criteria which is “does it target an individual,” which is reasonable. Content based restrictions on speech are generally r-slurred which is why e.g., the first amendment doesn't prohibit calling for the genocide of the Jews but it does prohibit speech likely to trigger particularized imminent lawless action.

All she had to do was test whether the school really means that by asking the same question about trans or blacks.

agree with the bad questioning.. instead of rephrasing and stacking more targeted questions she just repeated the same question and proclaimed what the answer was

getting emotional about it would have been fine even, if there was something to sit on this was just kinda awkward to watch
