I can't verify this but it's plausible. This is something that they had put thought into before Oct 7. The problem is with hostages involved, it would kill them too.

I'm surprised the Israeli government didn't tell hostages' families to stfu and specifically bomb the hostages to heck. It probably has to do with Bibi's lack of meaningful support if he prosecutes this war poorly. Up until 2016 it was official Israeli policy to kill it's own soldiers if they were at risk of capture.

Yeah I think they understand that there's no way to get the hostages back but nobody wants to say it publicly. And the propaganda they put out in America is all about exploiting the hostages' families. They've been interviewing them on all the American tv news channels multiple times per day every day for 2 months.

Yeah but every time Hamas releases some it makes the ones remaining more valuable. And the Israelis have said they're going to kill all the Hamas leaders (I'm definitely not complaining) which really creates lots of difficulty when you're negotiating.

I don't even know how the heck Hamas works. The "leaders" haven't been in Palestine since Star Trek The Next Generation was filmed. I guess it's just guys sending motorcycle couriers to each other. :marseyshrug:

There are definitely lower level leaders with significant autonomy on the ground and I expect Israel intends to kill them too.

I do get tired of hearing about them and the “muh 1200”. I lost my sympathy pretty quick when it was apparent that they are just useful idiots for their war machine and doing media rounds for a government that basically got their loved ones killed. Even Bibi speaks with an undertone of wishing these hostages were already dead.
