No its not used on bombing runs usually and America only used cruise missiles AFAIK. but it's possible they were worried about anti air missiles and cruise missiles, where an F22 can act in an anti air/anti missile role to protect the British planes.

Also a B2 was spotted over the skies of UAE, which shows they were worried about stealth,since those things fly from bases in America. They aren't kept overseas. But that might have been for Iran as a backup.
