I think that if a Palestinian state were to enact a 'right of return' thing for the diaspora and displaced Palestinians that it might avoid full blown fundamentalist dictatorship. But as it stands, yeah a people who have been bombed to shit repeatedly and who's only defence against the bombing have been a fundamentalist paramilitary are not gonna be great nation builders if you give them independence. At best you'll get a weird PTSD fueled Spartan state and at worst you'll just get Hamasastan.
