Then the disconnect is between stated reasoning and percieved reasoning.
Why did we go to war (the blatant reasoning) vs what was the point of the war (i.e. also known as why did we really got go war as popular amongst conspiracy theorists). Most are questioning the percoeved reasoning as every stated reason seems to have been politically abandoned (aside from murking Osama).

Then what you should be saying isn't why did we invade, but why did we stay after we got bin Laden? And yeah, none of the goals we were supposed to be working toward were accomplished. In fact we ended up making things worse. The Taliban didn't even control the whole country when we first went in.
I was already saying back in 2001 that the really ambitious women's rights stuff was a bad idea. We'd already tried nation building in various places before, Somalia for example, and I knew the American people were not really willing to put in the effort needed over decades to turn Afghanistan into a civilized country.
