At the start of the year, Iran only had four S300 surface-to-air missile systems. In April, Israel took out one of the missile systems in response to Iran's first ballistic missile attack. A senior U.S. official confirmed the airstrikes took out the three S-300 missile systems.

This retalation was absolutely perfect. It acheived multiple objectives including:
1. Targetting multiple key links in their missile production lines has reduced Irans domestic missile production to ZERO. Reducing Irans ability to conduct sustained strikes in the future, opening the window for de-escalation.
2. Targetting the radar systems used to guide their existing missiles has destroyed their ability to make any strikes anywhere near the size of the previous two (which were completely ineffective already). Reducing Irans ability to conduct effective retaliatory strikes in the near term, opening the window for de-escalation.
3. Targetting the russian S300s is not Iran's ONLY air defence (AAA fire is seen in videos from Iranians), but it is likely their best leaving them vulnerable to retaliation from future strikes, opening the window to de-escalation.
4. Even with forewarning Iran was unable to prevent the attack and was unable to down a single Israeli aircraft signalling that Israel can operate in Iranian airspace with effective impunity. Israel struck around 20 separate locations (which is about the upper limit for the IAF over that distance) but Iran only operates 16 or 17 military air bases. Israel has shown it could feasibly completely disable the IRIAF if they wanted. This is not something Iran wants to frick with. Opening the window for de-escalation.
5. China, Belarus and obviously Russia also operate the S300 and S400 systems and this strike has shown that America and their allies have the capability to completely dismantle them in the event of direct conflict. Hopefully contributing to hesitation by these parties in escalating their own bullshit.
6. The majority of targets are situated in protected military areas and away from cities and towns making it very easy for the Iranian regime to hide battle damage assessment from their own populous which in turn means they can save face domestically by spinning the strikes as ineffective. If the Iran regime can remain strong and inpenetrable in the eyes of their own people then in the regimes eyes they win, opening the window the de-escalation.
7. A small number of strikes on warehouses in and around Tehran ensured Iranians can capture footage of their flashy looking (but entirely ineffective) AAA cannon fire spraying the skies. Israeli jets fly 100 meters over the top of their max range but Iranians don't know that. From the ground it looks like Irans air defences are spectacular. Further bolstering the appearance of strength among the population, opening the window to de-escalation.
8. Social media is awash with comparisons of imagary of Iranian missiles raining down on Israel (in reality making craters in some dirt mounds and blowing the windows out of an office building) and the Israeli strike of a single explosion (the only target visible to civilian phone cameras). So many people think Iran has come out on top which is, to be clear, a real PR victory for the regime but is inarguably good for reducing the liklihood of Iranian retaliation.

Yeah, the article kinda implied that, but I needed a fancy title since there are only two more days until Homoween ends
Warning Iran that they are going to attack was the best part for me. It was a very clear message to Iran, since they can't even cope by saying they were taken by surprise and that's why they didn't manage to shot down a single marauding jew plane

Carpet bombing downtown Tehran with B52s would have been so much more fun tho

Genocide Joe unleashed the B52 on an Houthi underground weapons bunker just 2 weeks ago. Hint; America doesn't care all that much about the Houthi bunker, but reminding Iran that they can fly an undetectable and unstoppable stealth bomber with munitions capable of destroying bunkers even more hardened than their most protected nuclear weapons sites over Tehran literally whenever they want was worth every penny.

I like all the anti-Israel people insisting that the strike did nothing because civilian infrastructure wasn't hit. They can't even wrap their heads around the idea of a military target because all of their favorite countries either use civilian infrastructure as military assets or target military and civilian infrastructure indiscriminately.
