The offensive against Aleppo initiated by Turkish-allied Islamists from Hayat Tahir Al-Sham (a re-branded Al Qaeda that has made common cause with ISIS) and the US-allied Syrian National Army is the consequence of a strategic plan between the Israelis and Turks, backed by the US,… pic.twitter.com/sY7mEdtR9T

I truly wonder what israel and US offered to erdogan for this? He can kill all the kurds? Syrian land? Just plain moneh? Top notch weapons?
Safe bet is money. Turkish economy is in shitter. They will probably receive massive long term loans with no intrest soon.

Despite the hostile rhetoric, Israel and Turkey have been pretty much cooperating under the table for a while now. Both of them have insurgencies that the other has assisted and it's resulted in a sort of stalemate that neither wants to break. Erdogan might openly declare that he's severing ties with Israel but really Turkey maintains its alliance with Israel through Azerbaijan.
Anyways, this is in Turkey's interests since the shitstorm in Syria has resulted in millions of Arab refugees pouring into their country. If they establish some kind of control they can probably stop a lot of migration and focus the fight on the Kurds.

Yes. Same with US. Turkey is one selling oil to israel. And has been whole time. But open up front and telling russia to go frick themselves is something erdogan wouldnt do on his own just becouse. He thinks its good time to mess around in syria. Syrian situation is tricky for turkey. If it goes all up in flames. There might be window for kurds to form their own nation. Thats last thing they want.
Maybe there is scandal brewing. Thats possible.

Israel has always gotten along fine with Assad who is a secular pragmatist and has probably secretly cooperated with him on many occasions so it's not Israel.
