Corrupt Indonesian navy officers have been hijacking ships off Singapore and holding the crews for ransom

Dozens of ships waiting to enter Singapore have been seized over the last year by the Indonesian navy for illegally anchoring in its waters, with most being released after ship owners made unofficial payments

Most of the captains were freed after a few weeks once ship owners made unofficial payments to navy intermediaries of between $300,000 and $400,000, the people said.

I'm surprised they've been getting away with doing this to foreign companies.

Sounds like a bunch of corrupt navy officials have made this little part of the sea their own fiefdom. This can't be good for business.

isn't it amazing we're surrounded by countries where bribery and corruption is commonplace? I mean ours is legalised corruption with the high salaries and whatnot but still it's an eye-opener when you have to pay your first bribe

As I've gotten older and had more experience in life :marseyboomer: what I've learned is that this shit is going on all around you no matter where you are. In first world countries there's enough layers of crooked lawyers that nobody is blunt and just tells you outright that to hand over cash, but you're still getting fricked in the butt by organized crime. Especially in the real estate market where your rent goes up by $50/month and you don't realize you're getting robbed in the same way as if some cop in the jungle stops you at a checkpoint and goes through your wallet.

Oh, go crawl back into DeuxRAMA, or GoldandBlack, or whatever other gross anarchocapitalist incel spawnpit you originally crawled out of. Mammals are talking here, Pepe.
