The HDB (Housing & Development Board) provides public housing. It’s well run and not at all like public housing here in America.

@TracingWoodgrains discusses how HDB, among other programs, made Singapore prosperous in his great review of Lee Kaun Yew’s (father of the nation and benevolent dictator) autobiography.

this uh

her quote is particularly funny because Lee Kuan Yew was adamant about the need for people to have a stake in their society, and they designed their public housing in large part with that goal in mind. Not to say things always live up to their design, but her critique of public housing in singapore lands much worse than it would really anywhere else
