dramatards rate my PC build

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Mx48Nc

The video card is placeholder, everything else I'm pretty happy with. Tbh I have no idea what to do for the GPU, the prices on both current and last gen cards are fricking obscene. A 3070 is fricking $650. Do I bite the bullet and buy one anyway? Do I wait for the 4070 and 4060 and see what they look like? I'm currently on a 1070 so I can't really keep using that unless it's temporary.

Sometimes it's fun to go on /r/buildapc and tell random Redditors that they'd be better off buying a prebuilt. They get exceptionally mad.

Way too expensive tbh. Unless you're doing something serious you don't need a 2k+ pc

You don’t need anything over a 2070 unless you want to do AI shit. Video game specs have barely changed since the start of the last console generation. There are no games worth upgrading for. 4K is for chumps.

I built a high spec PC and all I do is play factorio, dwarf fortress and age of empires 2 on it because modern AAA games suck so much shit. What a waste of money. Heed my warnings.

Jump in the discussion.

I started playing a gay little 2D game in 2020 when I didn't have a graphics card. Then I got a 3080, played AAA for like 3 months, and went back to the gay little 2D game.

Big waste of money.

I’ve had a 2060S for like 4 years now and I don’t think I’ve ever even pushed it to 70%. Unless you’re really trying for 4K, or 2.5K with 144hz, you don’t need it.

Raytracing is unironically a minecraft meme and even there no one actually trades 300fps modded for a 30fps vanilla RTX experience. Shaders have 90% of the same quality.

A few things:

PSU is likely overkill

Case is bad for the price, and bad thermals in general compared to what's out there. look into the fractal meshify C (fan noise is not a real problem, I have a mesh case and it's basically silent)

Might want to look into a bigger/more powerful cooler, or an AIO preferably, for that 7900x, those things get real toasty

Jump in the discussion.

No email address required.

PSU is likely overkill

Typically a good move though, PSUs shouldn't be cheaped out on and it leaves you open to upgrades and graphics cards just keep sucking more and more power

Not that a 4070ti should need to be upgraded anytime soon though

No it's an r-slured move. He's not going to go SLI so there's nothing that'll take 1kw. He's going to be running under 150w 95% of the time so his efficiency will be trash.

Spending more money to get a higher power rating doesn't make the power supply higher quality. It's only gold rated, and in 2023 that's poorcel tier.

You people make me sick.

It's $190 dollars, That's fricking r-slurred for a PSU.

His build won't hit >75% of that 1000W draw, and fully modular is almost always a waste of money compared to semi-modular.

CPU seems overkill, 1000w PS is definitely overkill, 2tb NVMe is fine if you play a lot of games. im not sure if 32gb of ram is overkill cause im still running 16gb :marseypoor:

1000w is ok I guess since its the 7900x and the 4070ti, usually 850 golds should do just fine.

full tower

I don't understand the full tower or even mid when you can have a mini itx or small atx. Its just wasted space - its 2023 not 1996. But thats just my opinion having gone through using a monster full tower myself.

Everything looks good price wise.

Buy a 4070 Ti its 40% faster than the 3070 ti and is $800. These things are outrageously expensive so I would rather fork over a little more for that upgrade.

I did. If you are going to shell out $650 for a 3070 then it is worth it to just go for a 4070 ti. For basically $100 more he could have a better gpu and not wait around for a 4070 that will be worse.

Here is a 4070 ti for $770

Again it is 40% faster than the upgraded version of the card he wants to spend $650 on and better than the 4070 that he wants to wait for potentially.

I like it. I ordered the Noctua fan from NewEgg and some douche drop shipped it from China. China refused to let it pass customs so when I saw the tracking info I complained to New Egg and they gave me a refund even though the douche I fricked over then drop shipped from Amazon. Frick 'em. I hate drop shippers.

Also, no fancy gaming case? Or do you plan to have a DVD in there? Another thing is I got a 2TB for my gaming PC and wish I had gotten a larger drive but it will last you a long while unless you plan to install a lot.

I bought the same motherboard for my friend's gaming PC I built for him. I like it and he likes it, which is all that matters.

eta: Also, tbh, don't buy the latest GPU unless you really want to pay that much. You don't need it and won't notice a difference between it and last gen. I still have a 1000 series on my gaming PC and it's fine. I notice a bit of a difference with the 4000 series though. I'd go for the 3000 series if I was building something right now.

eta2: that power supply seems expensive. You could save money on an 850W which is enough for that video card. I bought a 1000W for my friend's computer and I don't believe I paid that much. Also, you could do an i7 and be fine if you want to save some money there.

Looks solid, but do you need 1000W for current day builds? Are you even struggling to run anything on a 1070? I have a 1080ti as my little gift to me whenever those released, and that has been fine for me even if I have to notch down some stuff form 4k to 1440p or 1080p, the main gripe I have is cyberpunk running like shit and that seems to be because my CPU is the oldest part of my computer (also it was programmed horribly and never fixed)

Yeah a lot of people pointed out the power supply, I'm dropping that down to 850W probably. I've finally gotten to the point where I have to dial some newer stuff down to medium at 1440p if I want to maintain 60fps, the 1070 had a good run but it's a bit past its prime. I'd also like something with a lot more VRAM for some of the machine learning stuff I do.

if you want to go into ML, yeah, might be worth it. I have no idea if that scales vs just renting VMs

  • The PSU is an overkill like others have said

  • Any reason for going with AMD over 13700K? Upgrade path?

  • cooler is incredibly stupid, just buy a cheaper 120/140mm one

  • The case is stupid, don't be an r-slur buy something smaller, they are nice enough to build in and you only do that once anyway. There are even ones that let you take the top out, think Phanteks P series.

IDK about the 4070, it eats up 50% of the budget.

Also Corsair Vengeance 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-5600 CL36 Memory

get a 6000 CL30/32 memory like this one https://pcpartpicker.com/product/x4VmP6/gskill-ripjaws-s5-32-gb-2-x-16-gb-ddr5-6000-cl30-memory-f5-6000j3040f16gx2-rs5k

AMD systems are extremely sensitive to memory and for the Zen 4 6000 is considered the sweetspot. dont skimp out on this since you are getting the top of the line 7900X

Samsung 980 Pro 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive

I heard some bad thing about this, about not having caches? why not get the SN850X which is very widely praised? https://pcpartpicker.com/product/crKKHx/western-digital-black-sn850x-2-tb-m2-2280-nvme-solid-state-drive-wds200t2x0e

Spend <$100 on the PSU. Gold, anywhere around 750-850W is perfectly fine. Semi-modular is good too (the only difference from fully modular is the cable that connects to your motherboard. It doesn't need to be modular unless you want to blow $20-40 more or must consume special straggy cables).

Everything else is fine (overkill) for gaming, but at least you won't have to upgrade the CPU, RAM, and mobo for 4-8 years with that build.

CPU is total overkill for gaming

Drop down a few notches on the CPU and upgrade the graphics card

Power supply is also total overkill, you should only need around 750w

case is too big for what you're going for too, smaller case is better anyway

The 2 TB nvme is probably pointless, I've never needed more than my 1tb of the same brand

CPU is total overkill for gaming

i'm a codecel too and i'd use it for more than just gaming

also this applies to everything else too but i plan to make this PC last 6+ years, the one i'm on now is like 8 years old and still not half bad

Power supply is also total overkill, you should only need around 750w

yeah i probably could, i usually like to overshoot on the power supply but 1000w may be a bit much

case is too big for what you're going for too, smaller case is better anyway

full tower or bust tbh, makes the whole build so much easier and the only time i move my pc is if i'm moving

The 2 TB nvme is probably pointless, I've never needed more than my 1tb of the same brand

right now my primary drive is 500gb, i have a secondary ssd that is 1tb, and a tertiary spinny drive that's 1tb and i still sometimes find it not enough, 2tb is cheap enough that i don't know why i wouldn't get that size tbh

Obviously if I'm ready to put meth in my butt and I want to know whether or not I should take a shit first, I've already made up my mind. It's going up there.
