:chadstevejobs: iCucks and EUCels seethe :marseyseethe: as apple decides to gimp USB-C. iPhone 15 USB-C Accessories to Have Limited Data and Charging Speeds Without Apple's MFi Certification

https://old.reddit.com/r/gadgets/comments/11e3m7p/iphone_15_to_require_certified_accessories_for

Apple requires third-party accessory makers to pay a fee to get certified access to select parts and technologies like the Lightning connector. This system is called the Made For iPhone program, and it was thought to be going away thanks to USB-C, but a repeated rumor says otherwise.

In the replies, Shrimp states that Apple will limit data and charging speed for cables connected to iPhone without the MFi certification. It seems this will be allowed, as Apple will be cooperating with the EU mandate to move to USB-C, just providing an obstacle to users.

Honestly, if this is true, whatever. The worst part of USB C is that the quality of the cable is a complete unknown to people at a glance, the only way I can tell my Thunderbolt 4 cable from any other USB C cable is that the TB4 cable has a larger boot around the connector. But even that isn’t a guarantee to it’s quality, data rate, or power transmission. If mfi means that it meets a minimum spec, fine by me. If not though, then Apple can pound sand.

Hey everyone, let’s all be outraged about an unsubstantiated rumor regarding a product that has not even announced or released.

:marseymalding:

If this is true, would apple even be allowed to do this? I thought the whole point was to standardise the port??

Probably. They just have to allow charging over type C. Never said they can’t use proprietary sauce for faster charging, as long as standard chargers still work

:marseybigbrain:

Just buy Anker cables then they aren’t expensive and are MFi certified.

scam company omegalul

Android starts to get attractive more and more as the years pass by. Even though you dont have years of support for your OS like with Iphones, you can get the newest flagship one year after its release for huge discounts

considering how r-slurred USB-C charging/transfer is these days, I don't blame them but at least they should stick to USB-PD which is USB-C's only saving grace

The issue with lightning isn't the connector. I can buy 3 cables for $10 on Amazon idgaf.

The issue is its a high speed connector cucked by USB2 speeds still which is fricking r-slurred. I can shoot 4k60fps video on this phone but have absolutely no way to get the video off of it unless I stand next to my router and xfer to my NAS over wifi, which even then takes forever, and then forces me to make another xfer to my PC when I just wanted the shit on my PC to begin with. And lets not talk about the most critical feature, BACKUPS and recovery, which fails half the time because Apple's shit software randomly locks the USB connection which takes over an hour to xfer 64GB of data off the phone, meaning using iCloud is the only viable option.

Apple could have supported USB3 at the very least but of course not, what use case would a high speed interface have for a literal 4k camera with a phone attached.

Can't wait to get rid of this dogshit phone when the next Samsung comes out.
