Windows is for corporate dronery and video games. Also watching a windows admin click around in vim like it's notepad will never stop being funny.

Who made the most popular code editor in the world which has great first party support for remote editing such that there's never a need to ever open vim? :marseythonk:

Vim is the greatest code editor. Vscodecels probably still have training wheels on their bike.

Tfw your OS is such spaghetti under the hood the devs have to skip from 8 to 10 and pretend like the number 9 never existed. Also, windows update.

I think the 9 skip was just because lazy devs would do version number.startswith(9) or something to determine compatibility with 95 and windows has a hard-on for backwards compatibility

I used Gentoo to learn a lot about Linux and the Kernel years ago. This video is the most accurate thing I think I've seen about Gentoo.

Yes, Bash has a lot of warts (so much so that I wrote my own shell)

Do unixcels really?

I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve found parameters parsed differently between applications (because Windows passes parameters as a single string rather than an array of arguments like POSIX systems), or that so called headless installers still have GUI prompts and/or spin off a non-blocking process so it’s challenging figuring out when it’s complete. Or Powershell routines come back with an unexpected type thus breaking your entire pipeline. Or don’t even support basic help flags so you cannot discover how to use the darn routine to begin with. Or the utterly ridiculous numeric error code that MS returns rather than descriptive error messages. Or its over engineered approach to logging that makes quick inspections of the systems state far more involved than it should be, or even just managing simple things like software updates requires while other expensive 3rd party solutions because the whole application and OS package management situation is fundamentally broken at its foundations …I

PowerShell sucks. It takes 10x as long to troubleshoot why the frick it isn't working.

Yes, I used that. I've run into weird cases, usually with "string phrases" and getting PS to fricking output something as that instead of putting it in one of those clunky r-slurred "tables" (or "objects," whichever definition of that it wants to use). This was years ago, and it still pisses off. :marseyangel:

PowerShell is legit retarded tho. I remember having to tweak a script to create a symlink. In Linux it's just:

ln -s <target> <link name>

In PowerShell?

New-Item -ItemType SymbolicLink -Path "Link" -Target "Target"

Anyone who thinks this is better has actual brain worms.

That being said modern Windows has WSL2 so you can just use Linux tools directly.

!chuds. I made a post about this funny reply but it was not suitable for genearl audiences. So allow me to explain why I think it is very good and more appropriate for a !chuds ping. I made comment "You can just type ni then tab complete the rest"

This was completely innocent. I was referring to the powershell alias for New-Item. But then this reply funny because ni is the beginning of n word so He implying that if you autocomplete... well you know. Anyways I think this is very good reply. I have replaced the post with the !chuds ping. This will do. Thank you all!
