No frickin way, someone's finally using 900Mhz unlicensed for packet data at scale in a not obviously rslurred way? This is something I used to daydream about.

How do I mass send out peepee pics with this?

the network allowance would likely be too small to confidently send pictures over so instead turn your peepees into ascii art and send that over the network instead

Sidewalk was originally developed as a solution for Ring video doorbell connectivity issues. Since the company’s smart doorbells are placed outside of homes, often with brick or plaster between them and a Wi-Fi router, Amazon found that no matter how good an antenna they put in, they would still miss alerts.

They created an entire network to compensate for the Ring's notoriously garbage wifi. That's impressive commitment.

Just look at /r/ring - loads of users complaining of issues (getting shouted down by fanboys who say it's definitely their fault because all they had to do was buy a new router, upgrade their data plan, and sacrifice 20 heifers to Bezos to get their Ring to work).

Aren't there better competing products on the market? A la how garbage Alexa is compared to Assistant or even Siri

Yep, there's loads of alternatives with various pros/cons.

I have the Eufy doorbell, which works great now. Although there was a time when it had a bug where the AI would think car alloys were faces and send dozens of alerts a day that someone was outside :marseyrage:

>helium.com is a way larger worldwide IoT network that incentives you as a provider of bandwidth. You essentially get nothing with Sidewalk if you choose to contribute.

Let's see how well helium is doing... lmao everyone is saying the network is dead and they're earning nothing
