A lot of these sound just like $lead-engineer at my company.

Drag everyone into meetings, discuss and plan and mull everything over before starting work on anything. Then start building and discover all your assumptions were wrong because you never prototype. Crunch time arrives and you churn out some hot garbage that doesn't work. QA hates you and the project is delivered 2 months after it was needed.

I've seen consistently better products built with a 2-man team in a week than $lead-engineer has built with a 5-man team over 4 months.

The CTO just announced a new project that needs to be turned around in record time, so he's putting together a small agile team to focus on it. $lead-engineer is the head of the team. Lol, I'm going to do everything in my power to stay well clear of the blast radius on that one.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Guys like you who think meetings are a "waste" and "just build bro" ending wasting time coding shit that a 20 minute meeting/discussion could have clarified.

Meetings in my company involve everyone talking round in circles about things they don't understand, while the people who actually have all the expertise on the subject have to entertain their uninformed suggestions.

I've had plenty of productive meetings at previous companies, because they actually deferred to the specialists when discussing their specialty (which is also where I saw smaller teams doing far better work, quicker). At this company, it's hopeless. Most meetings take hours and the resolution is usually to have more meetings.

We have a very old (old in the sense worked at the company for 10years now) lead dev in the company in another team, my manager usually brings him in when we are dealing with projects from outsourcing companies. He is based and says "all this is shit, you cant just have passwords in appsetings, you need to use keyvaults, where are the cancellation tokens, implement them first, why are you handling migration and project startup??" etc etc, We are all kinda newbs (1yr) in the company so we cant really say that directly to their faces (well we can but why when he can do it better?) when there are like big wigs in the status meeting, so we all feed our feedback to him and he comes in and bussy blasts everyone. extremely satisfying, cool norwegian dude
