That was the setup. They have the infrastructure in place to start doing fast lanes and treating the internet like cable tv.

For whatever reason its only been slowly moving forward. If Bill Gates gets his cyber pandemic were fricked.

I spent many years working for ISPs. I saw the regulatory capture happen and Verizon got there way with their man and his hersheys mug. Things have only gotten stupider since then. We need to start by repealing section 230 from big tech and go from there.

I’m pretty sure repealing 230 would spell the death of internet free speech, no? Even if it’s a fig leaf in 2023 (see Kiwi farms obvs).

It should only be repealed for the large companies that:

1. Play games by picking and choosing what rules apply to them

2. Companies that manually intervene in content. An example would be the facebook moderation team determining what is misinformation. Once you cross that line you're a publisher and should be held liable for what your users are publishing on your network.

I don't think it should be pulled completely because a lot of smaller sites would be damaged but those sites tend to stay focused on the content they want and are small enough they need that kind of protection. The big companies have already built the teams of lawyers and moved to the point where they dictate law, and use it as a weapon against competitors.
