Elon really did show just how useless 90% of company staff are, and how much of a pushover the average user is.

Most of the staff were account managers and ad sales people. I recall hearing guys talk about whole teams of Twittoids falling all over themselves to deploy their hair loss pill ads or whatever. At least one adchad I know was very upset to lose all his Twittoids and stopped spending on the platform because he didn't want to staff his own people.

As for the codecels, I don't buy that things are going well. The site's buggy. I have to reload pretty frequently for stuff to render, since there's some kind of sinister bug fricking with eventual consistency. That isn't going to go away, it's a ticking time bomb of the most extreme degree.

How do you know the bug will make things progressively worse?

It's almost impossible to tell whats causing those sorts of bugs from the outside. I know because I have partially qualified tech guys trying to guess every time they write me a ticket and the truth is usually much more mundane than what they imagine. Seeing some inconsistency on such a massive complex system like Twitter could be a large variety of things that look vaguely similar.

Pre-elon twitter was a pain to use for other but similar-in-magnitude reasons, and it sounds like their ad teams weren't very efficient to begin with. To me it feels like an even trade overall; not that that bodes well for their future though.

I mean it's fine if Twitter turns out to just be a $20-30B business. The only loser is Elon and some bankers. Twitter is not going away any time soon. Which is all that most people who aren't r-slurred wingcucks really care about.

Butttt Twitter had a few minor software issues in the past few months. Those 90% were doing important work. HN told me their servers would never survive such a massive upheaval. Surely Twitter's traffic has tanked thanks to Mastodon.

It turns out Twitters real problem wasn't it's shitty dev-team org structure, it's Musk's ability to keep advertisers spending $$$ with his spergy leadership. Blue was never going to fully compensate. Twitter is fundamentally an ad business just like Reddit, it's very very hard to replace ads with subscriptions on a B2C site like that. Reddit has the same problem, the API shit was a screen for the fact they have 100x pressure on pushing their mobile app.

To be fair, for all the soy freakouts and complaints, Twitter's fairer admin policy has brought a lot of people back to the site.

The press did go all in on trying to destroy their reputation, so advertising bux will have dropped. Nonetheless in time that'll recover and the healthier, less censorious culture is a good thing.

Yes it's pretty bad down 30% from a year earlier and it's not looking any prettier this month:

But honestly who gives a shit, the world's not going to end because Elon lost $10B buying a hobby like Twitter.

Isn’t that across the ad industry though? Indie podcasts I listen to are panicking.

You're right about the problem they face, but I'm not convinced that is going to kill it (unfortunately). Normies are simply too addicted to twitter for it to fail on those grounds.

Elon showed that there is a vocal minority which was always known on Twitter. Most people don't give a frick
